This creates an unofficial reference of information already on your licence. It is not issued or endorsed by the Department of Transport, the RTMC or any government authority, and it does not replace the physical card. South African law requires you to carry your licence card when you drive.
Digital Reference in your Apple Wallet
What this is
Scan the barcode on the back of your South African driving licence. ZADL reads it in your browser and builds your pass.
Your licence number, your ID number, the dates, the codes, and the barcode itself, with you when the card is not.
It is a reference, not a replacement. Carry your card when you drive.
How this works
The barcode is a PDF417, and it is encrypted. ZADL decrypts it, shows you what it found, and assembles the pass on the spot. About 89% of it is a compressed photograph, which is never decoded.
What it does not do:
- Collect or store any of your data
- Send your licence details anywhere
- Put your photograph or your fingerprint on the pass
